Dear Ted: I recently had a cat die and have been devastated to the point of waves of tearful moments, depression and mini panic attacks. I am completely surprised by this and even ashamed by my behavior. I loved my cat and she was with me for a long time, but as people tell me, I can get another one - or they seem surprised and put out that I am having so many feelings. I feel I must be crazy. At this time of year, many young people are heading off to college or getting ready to move out on their own. For the first time, these newly independent young people will have freedom to make many life choices for themselves. One of the new experiences is likely to be easy access to lots of alcohol on and around campus and lots of pressure from friends to drink a lot of it. more
