Blake's Lotaburger, a New Mexico original with a fan club devoted to its green chile burgers and seasoned fries, is celebrating its 65th birthday in July.
The iconic hamburger chain, founded by Blake Chanslor on July 9, 1952, will host a variety of events through the month in New Mexico, Texas and Arizona to celebrate.
To commemorate the hamburger establishment's "birthday" on July 9 - the day that Chanslor served the world's first Lotaburger from a one-grill stand in Albuquerque - all 75 Blake's Lotaburger locations will be joining in the birthday celebration. Beginning at 11 a.m., the first 50 people in line at all Blake's locations will get a free shake. The celebration continues beginning at 5 p.m., when the first 65 people in line at participating locations will receive a free Lotaburger. Not all locations are participating, though, so check the list at lotaburger.com/bday.
"Blake's has such loyal fans who have shown us a 'lota' love over the past 65 years," says Lucy Rosen, Blake's marketing director. "We wanted to celebrate our milestone birthday year with the community all month long and thank them for helping Blake's grow from our humble roots to now being known far and wide for our award-winning Lotaburgers."
