Cal Loving passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2017 in Taos. He was born on May 8, 1927 in Dallas, TX to Jesse George Loving and Joyce Williams Loving. He was raised in the Dallas area and graduated from Southern Methodist University. He served in the United States Navy. He started his career as a general contractor building and remodeling homes in North Dallas.
After relocating to Taos, Cal became very involved in the tourism industry of New Mexico and was a past President of the Taos County Chamber of Commerce in the late 70's. He was an active business man in the restaurant and lodging industry in a number of capacities. Cal owned and operated the well-known "La Cocina Restaurant" on the Taos Plaza for a number of years.
Cal enjoyed hunting, fishing, and skiing in Northern New Mexico. He was an active aircraft pilot and owned and flew a single engine Cessna 210 aircraft, a Piper PA-18 glider towing aircraft and a Schwitzer 2-33 sailplane. He was active in the development of the Taos Soaring Fiesta which was held in June for many years at the Taos Airport.
Cal and Vangie moved to Albuquerque in the late 1990's, where Cal worked in the real estate and motor coach business until his retirement to Questa.
Cal is survived by his wife, Vangie, son David Loving (Kathryn), daughter Carol Dinsdale (Paul), son Michael McCartney, sister Joyce Mohr, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Cal is predeceased by a brother, George Loving. Interment will be at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe with military honors.
