Staff at Enos Garcia Elementary held an assembly Thursday (April 12) to recognize their stellar readers in the Read-A-Thon program.
Students have been working on their reading and literacy skills with Read-A-Thon since January, according to Principal Gladys Herrera-Gurule, and celebrated the end of the program by handing prizes to the high achievers.
Students from first to fifth grade were awarded various prizes for their efforts in reading and school officials during the assembly said reading comprehension has risen at Enos since the program started nearly five years ago.
Fifth-graders at Enos were recognized during the assembly and a select few read poems they had written in front of the audience of a packed gym. Parents, teachers, students and community members all participated in the event where Enos faculty even recognized members of the community for their contribution to the student's reading program.
