Taos Pueblo Day School celebrates holiday with Native music and dance

The Taos Day School Thanksgiving Powwow took place Thursday (Nov. 23) at the Taos Pueblo Community Center, adjacent to the school. Tempo editor Rick Romancito was there and shot the photos for this series.

Festivities began with a Grand Entry at 7 p.m. followed by a full evening of intertribal dancing and drumming.

Master of ceremonies was James Edwards (Pawnee/ Cheyenne Comanche), arena director was Jerome Marcus (Taos Pueblo), Head Man Dancer was Bear Archuleta (Picuris/Southern Ute), Head Woman dancer was Victoria Archuleta (Ohkay Owingeh), Head Boy Dancer was Isaiah Romero (Taos Pueblo) and Head Girl Dancer was Karmen GT Fogarty (Assiniboine Sioux/Taos Pueblo).

Head Drum was Down to Earth, Albert Pinto, of Albuquerque.
