Good showing for HAA in first event of the year at Rio Rancho

The high-flying gymnasts of High Altitude Athletics kicked off the new year as they competed at the 2018 Gravitational Invitational at G Force Gymnastics in Rio Rancho Jan. 5-7.

"The girls did a phenomenal job," said Coach Sara Padilla. "They brought home many first place titles."

The lone Level 2 competitor, Tiana Hudson, took first place on beam (8.2) and on the floor (8.05) and garnered gold in the all-around.

Level 3 gymnast Christina Gutierrez scored an 8.35 on beam earning a fourth place in the all-around. Sofia Amdur scored an 8.1 on vault and took seventh place all-around. Bonnie Minter placed first on bars (9.2), coming in fourth in the all-around. Tirzah Ortega placed first on beam (8.9) and on bars (9.15). She also placed second on vault (8.9) and floor (8.55). Ortega brought home gold in the all-around. Eleanor Rael placed first on vault (9.0) and floor (8.8), and second on bars (8.45) and beam (8.15). She also took the gold in the all-around.

Level 5 athletes June Allalunis and Sofia Abrums did a wonderful job. Abrums took first on beam with (9.275) and came in sixth place in the all-around. Allalunis took fourth on vault (8.675) and beam (8.725), and first on bars (8.65) and floor (9.0). She took first place in the all-around.

HAA's Optional Team

Level 6's Beatrice Burton and Violet Kirshbaum both did well on beam. Kirshbaum scored an 8.8 on beam and she took sixth place in the all-around. Burton took third on vault (8.65), and second on bars (8.975) and floor (9.025). Burton also took the silver in the all-around.

Level 7 gymnast, Brandy Lee took second on bars (8.5) and first on beam (8.6). She came in third place all-around. Zeana McMains placed third on floor (8.875), second on vault (9.1) and beam (8.8) and first on bars with a 9.475. She took the silver in the all-around. Ciara Salazar took third place on bars (8.3) and beam (8.7) and came in third place all-around.

HAA's lone Level 8 gymnast, Alyx Mastor, performed a beautiful bar routine and scored an impressive 9.775. She took first on bars and floor (8.85) and came in fourth all-around.

In the Level 9 category, Abby Gunther garnered a second place on floor (8.85), second on beam (8.9), third on vault (9.0) and fourth on beam (8.15). She placed third in the all-around. Jackie Jagers placed fourth on floor (8.25) and came in sixth in the all-around. Ciara Murphy took fourth on vault (8.85), third on beam (8.85) and first on bars (9.35). She brought home silver in the all-around. The Level 9s also brought home a third-place team award.
