The Taos Lady Tigers continued their winning ways in convincing fashion at the Del Valdez Invitational cross-country meet held at Española High School Aug. 26. As a team, the girls took first place with 37 points – blowing away the second-best team, Robertson, by 30 points.
The Lady Tigers were led by Ella Katz, who came in first as an individual with a time of 19:35.00. She was followed by Erin Manchester-Jones, who placed second overall with a time of 20:42.92; Cassandra Ruiz, who came in fourth overall with a time of 21:05.95; Aaliyah Rael, who placed eighth with a time of 21:23.83; and Kelly Tonrey, who came in 11th overall with a time of 21:50.08.
Top five team scores went as follows: Taos 37, Robertson 67, Santa Fe Indian School 76, St. Michael’s 104 and Española 116.
The Taos boys finished second as a team with 80 points – coming in behind Santa Fe Indian School, which came in first with 65 points. Third place in the boys division was Española with 86 points. St. Michael’s claimed fourth place with 91 points and Robertson was the fifth-place team with 124 points.
Coming in first for the Tigers and 12th overall was Eddie Duran with a time of 17:34.66. Duran was joined by Zack Trujillo, who placed 13th with a time of 17:35.32; Aidan Heflin, who finished 15th with a time of 17:40.91; Pablo Archuleta, who came in 19th with a time of 18:02.60; and Otto Van-Willigan, who rounded out the top five scorers for Taos with a 26th-place finish with a time of 18:30.51.
Taos travels to Albuquerque to take part in the University of New Mexico Invitational Sept. 2. The location of the race is the UNM North Golf Course and races will begin at 8 a.m.
