The Paws For The Cause Walkathon, the annual fundraiser for Taos Feral Feline Friends, was held Oct. 7 and 8 with three volunteers completing the grueling 27-mile course. Veteran walker, Ben Mitchell (13 walks) and “Taos Unsung Hero”, Mish Rosete (11 walks) were joined by Dr. Kim Sides of the Salazar Road Veterinary Clinic, finishing her sixth walkathon. Over 1,000 miles have been walked since the first event in 2005.

This year’s walkathon party was held at the historic Bent Mason Lodge. Guests enjoyed live entertainment and a well-stocked sandwich and dessert buffet while exploring over 140 auction items, including oil paintings, prints, ceramics, jewelry and gift certificates generously donated by dozens of local artists, merchants and restaurants.

Our foremost thanks go to the Masons who kindly donated their facility and their representative, Jean Verheyden, who worked tirelessly alongside our volunteers to ensure a successful event.

Taos Feral Feline Friends is grateful for the many volunteers and supporters who worked at or donated to this year’s event. In particular, we truly appreciate our business sponsors including this year’s Gold Sponsors: Acorn Graphics, the Ammann Gallery, the Columbine Inn, Peoples Bank and the Taos Spa and Tennis Club; and the Silver Sponsors: Rio Grande Ace Hardware and The Taos News.

Leanne Mitchell, president of Taos Feral Feline Friends, stated “Operating a no-kill shelter, helping people adopt stray cats and trapping feral cats for spay/neuter is what we do. Community support is what makes it possible. Our business sponsors have helped many charities, including us, for years – they are truly the best in Taos.”
