The Northern Rio Grande National Heritage Area (NRGNHA) Board of Directors cordially invites all to the Saturday (Aug. 5) Grand Opening of the Northern Rio Grande Heritage Center, located in Alcalde, NM at the site formerly named the Oñate Monument Visitor Center.
The event will be a full day of Blessing and Celebration of our multi-cultural heritage in the NRGNHA service area of Rio Arriba, Taos, and Santa Fe Counties of the Northern Rio Grande region.
The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. with traditional and multi-cultural Blessings, Healing Prayers, and Invocations; and then into a full schedule of Northern Rio Grande cultural and iconic legends; music and dance; Farmers Market; Lowrider car show; cultural and heritage workshops; art demonstrations; food, and discussions, and more. The Closing Time is set for 8 p.m.
The NRGNHA is a public corporation that is funded by the U.S. National Park Service and whose Mission is to sustain the communities, heritage, language, culture, tradition, and environment of New Mexico’s Northern Rio Grande country through partnerships, education, and interpretation.
This National Heritage Center at the formerly-named Oñate site is in collaboration with the Rio Arriba Board of County Commissioners. The NRGNHA organization anticipates that the Heritage Center will be a dynamic, significant, and important cultural heritage resource for all the peoples of the Northern Rio Grande regions.
