Letter to the editor: 1912 American flag quilt with 48 stars

Posted

I am a family historian, my ancestors settled in Ranchos De Taos and Taos in the early 1900s.  The streets named Lund Street and Guyora Avenue are named after my family.  Lund Street was named after my great-great-grandparents Fletcher and Eva Lund. Guyora Avenue was named after their son Guy Lund and his wife Ora.

We have many wonderful old photographs of Taos and the surrounding area in our old family album.  I would like to share this photo of a woman posing with an American flag quilt on her front porch for a photograph.  I don't know who the woman is, must be a friend or neighbor of my Lund family when they lived in Taos.

The American flag on the quilt has 48 stars on it; I date the picture to 1912, the year New Mexico attained statehood or sometime shorty thereafter.

I am submitting this photo contribution for publication in your Taos newspaper for week of 4th of July. Please do not duplicate this photograph for any other reason.

Thank you, Donna Kout Ikard
