Partial closures along State Road 68 in the Río Grande Gorge began Tuesday (Aug. 22) and will remain in place until November. "Wait times will depend on the amount of traffic at any given time of day," said Tim Korte, spokesperson for New Mexico Gas Company, the utility financing the $14 million natural gas pipeline reroute.
Crews constructed a "launcher-receiver," a facility connecting sections of the pipeline, and installed the portion of the pipeline that climbs to the top of a mesa near Mile Marker 30. Crews will now be excavating the highway right-of-way between Mile Markers 30 and 29 and installing pipeline.
