Taos Democrats hold precinct elections; two names in hat for chair so far

The Taos County Democratic Party is holding precinct elections Feb. 18.

“Come learn about and engage in the local Democratic Party’s precinct elections,” a statement reads. “Please run for office and/or vote for your precinct representatives.”

Registered Democrats can vote in their precinct for representatives starting at 2 p.m.

Those interested in being a precinct representative can put their names forward at the meeting, organizers said.

“If you want to do community organizing to ensure the vote for you, call as many neighbors as you can, ask them to attend and vote for you,” the statement continued.

Those who are elected will be members of the Taos County central committee and will vote for the new Taos County Democratic Party chair and vice-chair March 18 at 2 p.m.

Current chairwoman Erin Sanborn is stepping down from the position. Two individuals have already put their names in the hat for consideration — Andrew Chavez and Darien Fernandez.

The chair and vice chair are elected positions. The treasurer and secretary will be appointed by the new chair.
