The Taos Tigers football team bounced back from a three-game losing streak by defeating the Pojoaque Valley Elks 51-0 in a home game Oct. 27.
The score was an exact replica of last year’s final and ended in a similar way when the Tigers beat the Elks near the same time mark in Pojoaque Valley. In both instances, the “mercy rule” was imposed due to the lopsided score.
In this year’s matchup, it was the inability of the Elks to stop the Tigers’ ground game that led to multiple touchdowns for Taos. Costly turnovers by Pojoaque also led to excellent field position for Taos, who capitalized on subsequent offensive possessions. Place kicker, Angel Limas was perfect on the night with six-of-six point after tries and a 33-yard field goal in the second quarter.
The Tigers now move to 6-3 overall and 2-3 in district play. The final regular season game for the Tigers will be against the Bernalillo Spartans at Anaya Stadium Nov. 3. Game time is 7 p.m.
