Melissa Larson, founder and main organizer for the annual Arte de Descartes exhibit, has announced the winners for this year's show.

The winners for this year's Arte de Descartes XVIII were selected by the jurors.

First Place went to Mary Alvarado for her piece entitled "Mycelium Lamp." Second Place winner,  Stuart Wittwer was selected for his piece "Bird Talker." Third Place was given to Laure Heinz for her piece, "Existential Enigma."

Honorable Mentions were given to Scott Randolph for "Some of the Ways I See You", and to Elaine Nelson for "Time Adjustor."

The People's Choice was won by Stuart Wittwer for "Soupy."

"We thank all the artists for their unique creations and everybody who helped make this show possible. We thank Peter, Ben and Conrad with the band 'boomBOOM' for the vibes they provided for the opening reception and all who helped prepare and provide food, including Cid's Food Market and El Gamal. We are grateful to be able to do this annual show, featuring many diverse artists working with scraps and recycled materials, and thanks to everybody who came to see the show," Larson said in a statement.

The exhibit concluded Sept. 8 at the Stables Gallery of the Taos Center for the Arts.
