Astronaut talks wild ride in space at Wild Rivers

NASA astronaut Don Pettit knows the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument. Before he took off for space, he trained alongside a geologist in the rugged, arid northern Taos County.

Pettit will be speaking about his time in space abroad the NASA Space Shuttle and International Space Station at the Wild Rivers Visitor Center Amphitheater Wednesday (June 20) from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

"Since the days of the Apollo missions, the Río Grande del Norte National Monument has been a training ground for NASA astronauts," read a press release from the Bureau of Land Management.

The Wild Rivers Amphitheater is located at 1120 Cerro Rd., Cerro, NM 87519.

"The amphitheater is an open air venue and visitors are reminded to dress appropriately for the local weather conditions and altitude.  In addition, the public should remember their outdoor essentials - water, snacks, appropriate footwear, hat, sunglasses and sunscreen," according to the BLM.
