Blood drive at Taos High

The next blood drive in Taos is 9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Tuesday, (April 24) in the Taos High School gym. United Blood Services New Mexico has to collect 300 units a day to meet the needs of hospitals statewide. United Blood Services is the only provider for the state. The statistics tell why blood donations are important.

The organization reports that someone in New Mexico needs blood every 3 seconds. While one in three people need blood in their lifetime, only 5 percent of the population donates blood.

Blood supplies must be kept fresh, so a constant supply is vital, according to the organization.
