Searchers and law enforcement located and recovered the remains of a 32-year-old Albuquerque woman from the Río Grande Gorge on Saturday (June 8), but New Mexico State Police has not identified the woman.

Members of the woman's family contacted New Mexico State Police earlier this week, stating that the 32-year-old had talked about suicide and might be at the Río Grande Gorge Bridge.

According to a press release from state police, officers attempted to conduct a welfare check on the woman in the area of the bridge, but found her car abandoned at the gorge bridge rest area.

Supported by local emergency personnel, officers conducted a search and found the woman's remains in the gorge. The woman was pronounced dead by the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator.

"Out of respect and courtesy of the family and to protect their privacy, NMSP PIO’s do not release the names of the victims or family," state police public information officer Ray Wilson wrote in the press release.

According to information from local law enforcement, the woman's death marks the second to take place this year at the gorge bridge following the death of a local man who jumped to his death in early April.
