Chevron’s Questa water treatment plant achieves billion-gallon milestone

Posted

Chevron Environmental Management Company announces that its Questa water treatment plant has discharged its billionth gallon of clean, treated water into the Red River.

“We would like to recognize and congratulate our staff and the staff of Golder Associates for safe, reliable operations of the water treatment plant over the past two and a half years, and on reaching this remarkable milestone,” said Chevron spokesperson Tommy Lyles.

The plant releases roughly 1 million gallons per day of clean treated water into the Red River and eliminates further risk by keeping the water levels in the underground mine well below the surface levels of the river and its surroundings.

Since July 2017, the water treatment plant has been safely capturing and processing surface water runoff, dewatering the underground mine, discharging clean water and increasing instream flow of the Red River to ensure the protection of the riparian environment and the safety of the surrounding communities.
