Final push to recruit athletes and volunteers for 40th N.M. Senior Games

Posted

The New Mexico Senior Olympics State Summer Games is still registering athletes and signing up volunteers for the 40th Anniversary Games slated to take place in Albuquerque July 18-22.

The New Mexico Senior Olympics State Summer Games features 25 sports from archery to swimming to track and field. Sport venues are located around Albuquerque, including Balloon Fiesta Park, the University of New Mexico Track and Natatorium, and Jerry Cline Tennis Complex, Manzano Mesa Park and Los Altos Park.

Game volunteers are needed to assist with the 25 sporting events scheduled during this year's gathering.

Benefits of signing up to volunteer include: resume bolstering, event management skills building, networking opportunities and service to the senior community. Plus, volunteers can showcase the hospitality Albuquerque has to offer to Senior Olympians and work at the many great sporting facilities in the Albuquerque metropolitan area. Helpers will receive a complementary T-shirt, certificate, invitation to attend the volunteer kick-off event and be entered into a drawing for a $100 gift card. Groups of friends are encouraged to team up and have fun.

No prequalification is required for athletes. Anyone 50 years or older can still register for the state summer games in Albuquerque. Deadline to register is June 15.
