Strong winds knocked down power lines in several areas causing power outages for some Kit Carson Electic Cooperative customers Sunday evening (May 26), according to spokesman Michael Santistevan.

Wind gusts reached 40 miles per hour or more Sunday in Taos, according to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque. High winds are expected to continue through Memorial Day Monday.

KCEC crews were on their way to repair the lines and restore power to areas around Upper Ranchitos, Camino en Medio and Callejon.

It is not yet known how many customers lost power.
