To commemorate National Education Association’s Read Across America Day, dozens of Taos organizations came together in a weeklong celebration to promote reading among area youth.

The annual nationwide initiative coincides with the birthday of renowned children’s book author Dr. Seuss, creator of classics including ‘The Cat in the Hat’ and ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas!’

This year, Dr. Seuss’ birthday bash was one of many events offered to children throughout the week. The Friday (March 6) party included activities like balloon animals, bowling, face painting, making Dr. Seuss-themed bookmarks and crafty fun with Twirl Play and Discovery Space, to name a few.

Among those collaborating were town of Taos Community Events, Taos Youth and Family Center, Friends of the Public Library, Op. Cit. Books, Paso a Paso Children Count and SOMOS. The town of Taos has been participating in the national celebration of reading since 2003.
