IHOP on the horizon in Taos

Taoseños will soon be able to savor a stack of pancakes at their local IHOP with a soft opening around April 17 set for the Taos location.

For several months, drivers on Paseo Del Pueblo Sur have seen the IHOP that states simply, "Coming Soon," with the famous IHOP logo.

Only weeks away from opening, contractor Jim Pollard says the construction has gone smoothly with only minor hiccups in the renovation of the old Applebee's location. Pollard expects construction to be done by the end of March.

"Furniture was delivered last week and is slowly being setup as space is available and safe," Pollard said in an email. "The kitchen equipment gets installed next week. After that it is a matter of breathing life into everything, making sure it works as required, touching up smudges and dings, balancing out the heating and air systems, and getting our inspections before the end of March."

Once construction is completed, the business will have to train new employees and ensure that everything in the location runs smooth before having a grand opening. The new employees will train with corporate trainers for eight days before having customers in to gobble up pancakes.
