Zimbabwe’s “hottest band” Mokoomba took a short break from their touring schedule to teach some Taos Charter students the ins and outs of Afro Rock.
The group, scheduled to play at Taos Mesa Brewing later in the evening, held a special assembly Friday (March 9) for the Taos charter school to introduce students to the rhythms and culture of African music.
Members played some of their songs and shared some of their cultural stories with the group of students before inviting the students to participate in song and dance with the band.
Taos Charter students learned to sing one of Mokoomba’s songs and practiced the official dance moves for the tune. A select few students were even allowed to practice percussion with the group and were allowed to use the hand drums used by the band.
