The veterans assistance organization, Not Forgotten Outreach, is inviting the community for the first planning meeting for its Veterans Memorial Park at noon Saturday (March 3) at its wellness center, 428 Theodora Lane, in Taos.
After recently purchasing the 28-acre Mitchell field across State Road 68 from Cid’s Food Market, NFO began working on its plans for the plot of land. Generally, they plan to use it for agricultural and therapeutic purposes for veterans and their families. Future projects include plots for planting, greenhouses, living quarters and a community veterans park to honor those from Taos County who have served in military conflicts both past and present.
Saturday’s event will give the community the opportunity to discuss the uses for the acre on which the memorial will be built. Plans from the organization for the memorial include a POW-MIA memorial, an Americans with Disabilities Act walking path as well as a water feature. The memorial will sit on the plot of the property where the Malaria Ditch runs and will be a “green” park, according to a press release from the organization.
The public is welcome to join in the discussions and help design the park, which will be available to the community to enjoy once finished.
