Questa school board fires superintendent

Posted

After a four-and-a-half hour closed-door discussion Monday night (Jan. 7), the Questa Independent School board terminated the contract of superintendent LeAnne Salazar.

Salazar had been on the job since May, when she became the district's fourth leader in a  year.

Only board vice-chair Matthew Ortega voted against Salazar's termination.

The decision was made during a special meeting of the board. All other agenda items, including discussion about closing the elementary school in Costilla and routine administrative concerns, were immediately tabled at the start of the meeting.

Acting superintendent and longtime Questa schools employee Felipe Blea was made interim superintendent.
