Strong winds, some snow to head through NM

Posted

The National Weather Service reports strong winds and a few inches of snow could be headed for the Taos area Thursday night (Jan. 17) and through Friday.

"In short, a potent upper level disturbance will dive southeastward into New Mexico... bringing colder temperatures and strong to damaging winds to the state. Fresh snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches are expected in the northern mountains with upwards of a foot in the Tusas/San Juans Mountains near Chama," according to forecasters.

Further, winds could reach up to 30 miles per hour in the area, though "damaging winds" could occur in eastern and southern New Mexico.

Meteorologists predict the Taos area could see between 2 and 3 inches of new snow, while the upper mountains could get between 4 and 6 inches.
