Susan Bachin-Crowl


After a long illness Susan passed away on March 16. Susan was a nurse educator. She began her career as a student at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. Later she graduated magna cum laude at Russell Sage College in Troy, New York. Later, she received an MSN from the University of New Mexico, graduating magna cum laude. While Susan's career began in Philadelphia, in 1973 she moved to Taos with friends, all of whom worked at Holy Cross in Taos. She met her husband Jack in Taos and the two built a house from beer cans in Des Montes, using a design by Mike Reynolds. In the years that followed, Susan and Jack worked in the Upper Hudson Region, then move to the Navajo Reservation and Gallup, New Mexico. Susan worked as Nurse Educator at Gallup Indian Medical Center and taught at UNM in Gallup and in the University's BSN program. They retired and moved to Belen in 2009. Susan was born in Philadelphia on August 29, 1946, the daughter of Meyer and Reba Bachin. Her loving sister, Harriet, lives in Marlton, New Jersey, and her brother David lives in the Philadelphia area. She was close to her many relatives in the Philadelphia area. Susan is survived by her husband, Jack, and by her sons Kenneth and Phillip and by her stepson, Johnny.
