Taos County Sheriff's deputy charged with domestic violence

Taos County Sheriff's Deputy Lorenzo Sanchez was charged with domestic violence this week after law enforcement responded to a 911 call on Monday (Jan. 21).

In a press release sent Wednesday (Jan. 23), Sheriff Jerry Hogrefe confirmed his deputy had been charged but did not provide details of the 911 call.

Hogrefe said the Río Arriba County Sheriff's Office and New Mexico State Police investigated the call and later secured a warrant for Sanchez's arrest.

"Sanchez immediately surrendered himself to TCSO Detective Marvin Armijo upon request and was arraigned in Río Arriba Magistrate Court yesterday," Hogrefe wrote in Wednesday's release.

The court released Deputy Sanchez on standard conditions of release at the arraignment, the sheriff said.

Hogrefe has placed Deputy Sanchez on administrative leave pending an internal investigation into the matter.
