Taos walks for suicide awareness

Posted

Taos community members gathered Wednesday (Sept. 18) to bring awareness to suicide and the steps to prevention.

The Walk for Life began at Kit Carson Park with a gathering of teens and adults, clad in purple, before taking to the streets. The crowd was led by law enforcement to Taos Plaza where song and prayer began the event.

Taos County Undersheriff Steve Miera and Taos Police Chief David Trujillo spoke to the crowd about dealing with loss from law enforcement’s perspective and declared that one loss to suicide is too many.

The event also saw a proclamation from both Taos County and the town of Taos addressing the issue of suicide and the prevention of such loss in the Taos community.
