The Taos Municipal Schools Board of Education decided to adopt a cultural change to their calendar during their regular Tuesday (Dec. 12) meeting.
The district will officially be recognizing Indigenous Peoples Day on the school calendar on the same day as Columbus Day. The move reflects the action taken by many districts and municipalities across the country in recognizing Indigenous Peoples Day. It is unclear whether Columbus Day will be replaced at the school district or recognized concurrently with Indigenous Peoples Day.
For more information on the decision and how long this has been pondered by the district, see Thursday's (Dec. 21) edition of The Taos News.
