National Board Certification was set up to better recognize and retain teachers who take extra efforts in education and dedication towards their students. The process is rigorous and teachers must also be part of their community as well as their school. They must provide standards-based proof that their methods have been effective in helping students learn. They must also display a dedication and commitment to student excellence in order to receive the certification.
Kristen Rivera and Trish Curran, both of Enos Garcia Elementary, earned their certification while Tracy Galligan of Taos High School also joins the ranks. Taos Superintendent Lilian Torrez said the district has several other teachers who are working on their certification as well.
