Town of Taos sees first snow dusting of the season

Precipitation will decrease today, but scattered showers still possible into afternoon

Town of Taos and most parts of Taos County at higher elevation woke on Monday (Oct. 15) to find a layer of snow dusting trees, cars, and fences for an early winter wonderland effect.

Taos Municipal Schools  and the Peñasco and Questa school districts had no delays.

The arrival of autumnal  precipitation in the form of snow is welcome after a low snowfall record in the winter months of 2018.

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque reports a chilly start to Monday (Oct. 15) across northern and central New Mexico. Today's highs will be several degrees below average. Batches of rain, snow, sleet, and freezing rain and drizzle are continuing in a few areas. Precipitation will decrease today, but scattered showers are still possible into afternoon.
