A truck hauling a trailer caught fire south of the horshoe curve on State Road 68 in Taos County Wednesday afternoon (Oct. 9), according to reports from Taos Central Dispatch.
Initial reports around 3 p.m. indicated the truck and trailer became fully engulfed in flames following an unspecified accident near mile marker 33.
County fire departments and law enforcement began arriving on scene around 3:15 p.m. First responders came upon a pickup truck and trailer that were in flames, creating billowing smoke that reduced visibility on the state road south of Ranchos de Taos. One first responder reported that fuel was leaking from the vehicle.
Firefighters were able to put out the flames and law enforcement temporarily halted traffic on the roadway. Southbound traffic was backed up for nearly a mile due to the fire.
Taos County Emergency Services Chief Chris Medina said no one was injured in the incident.
