University of New Mexico-Taos celebrated their 2018 commencement ceremony Thursday and Friday, (May 10, 11) at the Sagebrush with 146 graduates from their associate degrees and certificate programs.
Family and friends packed the Sagebrush conference hall as graduates walked across the stage to mark the next step in their journey. Keynote speaker Cynthia Nava, of Learning Alliance New Mexico, and UNM- Taos CEO Patrick Valdez gave speeches of encouragement Friday to the graduates before they walked the line.
Student speaker Jasmine Romero gave her fellow classmates a speech of overcoming several obstacles to earn her degree and urged graduates to continue working and striving, no matter the set-backs.
Of the 146 graduates, 86 graduated with honors, a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
