Weather alert: serious snow could be on the way

Posted

Taoseños woke up to snow on the Sangre de Cristo Mountains for the past two mornings and the clouds stewing today (Oct. 11) could soon make for even whiter peaks.

The National Weather Service is warning folks in Northern New Mexico of a storm that could possibly dump several inches of snow on Sunday (Oct. 14).

The Albuquerque office of the weather service issued the alert Thursday morning.

“This may be an abrupt end to the growing season in eastern New Mexico,” the warning read. “Temperatures will be between 25 and 35 degrees below normal Sunday across eastern New Mexico.”

Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort near Peñasco reports getting a quarter-inch of snow over the past day. A Taos Ski Valley weather station reports 1.1 inches of precipitation since the beginning of the month.
